The varsity baseball team continues to win in the playoffs.

First, they defeated Sunrise Mountain 9-5 at home Tuesday.  The offense jumped on the Mustangs early when Cam Cannon took the first strike thrown in the game over the left field fence.  The team hit through the lineup in that first inning, scoring 5.  Later in the game Tristan Thomas hit a two run shot over the centerfield fence to put the game away. Tommy Lowe & Nolan Ruff split pitching duties for the win.

On Thursday, the team scuffled with their neighbor & rival, O’Connor.  The teams battled back and forth but locked things up a 4 each through the second half of the game.  In the 7th inning Ridge got runners on first & third and they pulled off the pickle play – getting the runner at first in a pickle to score the winning run from third.  Matthew Liberatore pitched 4 2/3 innings and Nolan Ruff relieved for 1 1/3, and Matthew Dyer finished off the game on the mound, pitching the 7th.  The game ended in dramatic fashion with 1 out and bases loaded… Dyer was able to get a ground ball that Cannon, Jason Harayda, & Alex Roth were able to turn into a walk off double play.  Ridge won 5-4.

The Mountain Lions will next play in the state playoffs Saturday at 6:30pm at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Come out to the game and cheer them on!
