Multiple Teams · Varsity Softball Cruises to 9-0 win over Verrado


The varsity girls softball team improved their regular season record to 2-0 (6-1 overall) after beating Verrado 9-0.

Giselle Juarez pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 14 while giving up only 5 hits and a walk. Juarez improved to 4-1 on the season with an efficient 1.36 ERA and an astounding 62 strikeouts (with only 6 walks) in only 36 innings.

Offensively, the lady lions scored early and often. Haley Rath and Payton Alsobrooks each went 3-4. Rath had a double and two RBIs. Mackenzie Whitten went 3-5 and Bailey Buechat went 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Freshman Tiffany Williams added two doubles.

An outstanding effort by Giselle Juarez lifted Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions to a 9-0 win in seven innings over Verrado on Wednesday at Verrado High School.

Juarez got the win for Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions thanks to 14 strikeouts. Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions’ pitcher tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed only five hits.

Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions beat Verrado thanks to 16 hits, including five extra base hits. Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions scored three runs in the third on Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions scored in the third on an RBI double by Haley Rath and a two-run single by Bailey Buechat.

Buechat racked up three RBIs on two hits for Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions.

#4 was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed five runs.

The game’s last lead went to Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions thanks to a second inning rally that saw one run cross the plate on a solo home run by Buechat.

Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions posted one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth. In the fourth, Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions scored on an error, scoring Tiffany Williams.

Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions built upon its lead with two runs in the seventh. Mackenzie Whitten kicked things off with a double, plating Williams. That was followed up by Jailene Carpio‘s single, scoring Whitten.
