This week the Mountain Ridge varsity baseball team played three tough games where the team went down early and fought back in…
Monday they lost to Greenway 3-5. Ridge out hit Greenway, and they were down early in the game, but untimely errors and an inability to string together the hits was their undoing. Ridge tied the game up 2-2 on a homerun by Trent Turner, but the offense never quite put it together. Chase Sandman was credited with the (pitching) loss as the 5 runs scored in his 4 1/3 innings pitched. Nolan Ruff pitched in relief, giving up no runs in his 1 2/3 innings on the mound.
Tuesday Ridge defeated their rival O’Connor 2-1 at O’Connor. Colby Wyatt pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, but the Mountain Lions finally got to him in the 7th inning when Jason Harayda scored Tristan Thomas on a single to left and Chase Sandman Sac Bunted in Alex Roth for the go ahead run. Matthew Liberatore was outstanding in his 2 hit 4 2/3 innings on the hill, but he was relieved by Tommy Lowe with Mtn Ridge down a run. Tommy picked up the win by pitching the final 2 1/3 innings & allowing only one hit/runner in that time.
Thursday the Mountain Lions fell behind again when Liberty jumped out 2-0 on a homerun in the first inning. True to form, Ridge fought back through the next 8 innings, scoring on a homerun by Josh Sandoval in the 2nd, and a wild pitch in the 6th. Then they got a couple hits and a sacrafice bunt in the bottom of the 8th to set up Rudy Mueller-Schrader for the game winning sacrafice fly to right field. Ridge came away with a 3-2 win over Liberty! Alex Roth (2.0 innings) started on the hill, was relieved by Josh Sieglitz (4.0 innings). Tommy Lowe pitched the 1 2/3 innings, and Nolan Ruff got the final batter out to close the 8th inning.
